Four Tips For Selecting The Right Programmable Thermostat

Whether it's your home or business there are some things you need to consider when selecting the right programmable thermostat. The first thing you want to do before chosing any kind of thermostat is to see what kind of HVAC system you have, to make sure that the thermostat of your choice would be compatible with it.
HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning, which is the foundation that is controlled by the thermostat that maintains the temperature in your home or place of business.

Which Thermostat is right for you

Nowadays people want things to be simple and easy, so when selecting the right thermostat you want to make sure that it is easy to use and programmable. There are four different types of programmable thermostats such as,

  • 7-day programming
  • 5-1-1 programming
  • 5-2 programming
  • 1-week programming
each giving you a cost effective way to control the heat or air in your home and/or business.
The 7-day programming is where you have the option to set a different temperature for each day of the week. This type of programming is used most by individuals and families on the go. Having a busy schedule means that you can't always be at home to control the thermostat so that is why this programming is beneficial because you can control the temperature as needed.

The 5-1-1 is for people who have a set schedule, and know when they will be home for their thermostat to come on before they get there. With this programming you can set a five day reminder to have your thermostat come on in enough time for it to be cozy or cool when you arrive.

The 5-2 programming is more or less the opposite of the 5-1-1 programming because instead of controlling the week, with this option you can control the weekend. The temperature you set for this option will have the same setting unless you choose to change it manually.

The last one is the 1-week programming which is similar to the 5-1-1 and the 5-2 programming because instead of five days and two days, this preference allows you to maintain the same setting all week long.

Tips for using your programmable thermostat correctly

Now that we have established which programmable thermostat is right for you let's go over a few tips to make sure that we know how to use them efficiently. Thermostats need to be adjusted to fit your schedule such as when you

  • wake up
  • go to sleep
  • go to work
  • come home
Knowing the correct setting of your thermostat can save you alot of money on the end. Most thermostats are set at a comfortable 78 degrees when you are home but should be adjusted by 10 to 15 degrees before you go to sleep. This rule can also be exercised before you leave and when you come home for the day. Regardless of what setting you choose for your home make sure that it is beneficial for you as far as saving money and being the right programmable thermostat for you.
